Ritchie, Silver tune up ‘RocknRolla’
RocknRolla gets a summer start date. Joel Silver, Dark Castle Entertainment, will produce this film along with Writer/Director Guy Ritchie. Also joining along as producers are Steve Clark Hall and Susan Downey with both Steve Richards and Navid McIlhargey Executive for this pick with Lauren Meek as Associate Producer. This film will be reminiscent to Ritchie's early films like Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels and Snatch, both faced paced dramas with strong ensembles, attitude and low budgets. RocknRolla revolves around a Russian mobster orchestrates a crooked land deal, putting millions of dollars up for grabs and attracting all of London's criminal underworld. A dangerous crime lord, a sexy accountant, a corrupt politician and a band of petty thieves are among those double-crossing one another. Silver said, "I love Guy's early British gangster movies, and when he showed me this script and said he wanted to make it right away, it was a strong opportunity to broaden the Dark Castle label to produce with international appeal. The plan is to go well beyond horror and make action comedies, thrillers and urban films. This feature's budget will be under $20M. This film is the 2nd that Silver will finance since plugging Dark Castle into more than $240M in production funding, Kate Beckinsdale Whiteout which is in production in Montreal and The Summoner, the supernatural thriller will begin this fall. Silver's plan is to finance two or three genre films per year under the label as he makes larger budget films for WB through his Silver Pictures Banner. Thanks Variety

Ritchie's 'RocknRolla'

Guy Ritchie RocknRolla
Even though Guy Ritchie tried to make up for the Madonna's Swept Away with Revolver, the film landed short and seems to always have a 'TBA' stamped as it's released date. The director is now back again with RocknRolla, a project he wrote for Joel Silver's Dark Castle Entertainment as in the same vein as Snatch and Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels. With a budget that just falls short of $20M, this feature should have a strong ensemble and tons of attitude. The story revolves around a Russian mobster orchestrates a crooked land deal, putting millions of dollars up for grabs and attracting all of London's criminal underworld. A dangerous crime lord, a sexy accountant, a corrupt politician and a band of petty thieves are among those double-crossing one another. Joel Silver said, "I love Guy's early British gangster movies, and when he showed me this script and said he wanted to make it right away, it was a strong opportunity to broaden the Dark Castle labell to produce with international appeal. The plan is to go well beyond horror and make action comedies, thrillers and urban films. Silver who hopes to finance two to three genre films per year under his Dark Castle banner and RocknRolla is one with a start date set for this summer. Thanks Can Mag

While his album may be in jeopardy, his acting career is not. Not easily intimidated by more seasoned actors, Saigon is eager to show off his acting chops.

THE AYATOLLAHS OF ROCKNROLLA
CHUD, in their unique meandering way of getting to the latest news on Ritchie's upcoming film RocknRolla, give their take on the latest happenings for the movie. So, there isn't a reason why this film shouldn't be perfectly entertaining, cause he's got a better than average shot at pulling off a better than average caper flick now that he's cast Gerard Butler, Idris "String Bell" Elba and Tom Wilkinson in this movie about a lucrative land deal gone bad. And what was said next is in true CHUD fashion, that Ritchie hamstrung himself a bit for adding Thandie Newton and Chris "Ludacris" Bridges to the cast as well. (Gotta admit, the article above is an intresting read cause what I'm writing is a muchly watered down story.) And the article does go on to say, casting isn't the issue with Ritchie, it's the writing that'll kick his ass if he's not careful and to just write up a straight-up, guns-out gangster picture. RocknRolla began shooting last week in London and will be distributed in the US next year by Warner Bros. Thanks CHUD

With a brief summary of upcoming movies like Leonardo DiCaprio's Revolutionary Road, Shai LaBeouf next project Eagle Eye and RocknRolla, here's the excerpt from this article. Thanks E! Online

Lock, Stock and Hey, Where You Been? Mr. Madonna, aka Guy Ritchie, is finally getting back to work! After taking some time off with the fam and watching Snatch over and over and over and over, Ritchie has teamed with 300's Gerard Butler. (After P.S., I Love You drops this holiday season, he's really gonna need to toughen up his image.) So dig this: The project's called RocknRolla, and it explores the world of a Mob turf war. Butler's character is named One-Two. The film will be produced by Joel Silver (best sneaker collection for any producer in Hollywood) and has an awesome cast with Idris Elba (Big 'Dris!), Ludacris (Big Chris!), Thandie Newton and Tom Wilkinson. Sounds dope.

Jeremy Piven Talks New Will Ferrell Flick, Possible 'Entourage' Movie
Jeremy Piven speaks with MTV on the set of his buddy Common's next music video about some projects he's involved with recently. The first project is exclusive news for MTV, it'll be a comedy film that Will Farrell and Adam McKay are producing called Don Ready and it'll probably shoot before next spring's impending film production strike. There's a bit more of a discussion about this film in the link, it's a good article and Piven does give an interesting quote. Some other productions he talks about are, his cameo for the clip 'Drive Me Wild', Jamie Foxx's Iraq war drama The Kingdom, upcoming episodes for Entourage which has also spawned recent talk of a feature film based on the tv show and the recently wrapped Guy Ritchie film RocknRolla. Here's what was said about the film, though it's a very short quote. Thanks MTV

Piven is a busy man these days with a Jamie Foxx Iraq war drama about to come out (" 'The Kingdom' will be out in September," he said — check out the trailer right here), and the recently wrapped "RocknRolla" ("Guy Ritchie is back and better than before") on its heels.
