Homelessness Hunger Strike Relay
The "2010 Homelessness Hunger Strike Relay" began December 29th in Vancouver and it has been gaining momentum ever since.
We are calling for the re-establishment of a National Housing Program based on the One Percent Solution in Canada.
Each week new volunteers take on the Wooden Spoon and participate in a
week long fast for 7 days. The hunger strike will continue past the
2010 Olympics to June 2010. Supporters from across the country will
board the train to Ottawa, commemorating the 75th anniversary of the
"On to Ottawa Trek" to demand the government to support affordable
housing, a living wage and accessable social programs.
Sarah will be participating in the Relay in the week of May 24 - 31

Canadian Parliament Reaffirms Support for US Iraq War Resisters
March 30, 2009
The Canadian House of Commons has reaffirmed it's support for US Iraq
War Resisters, passing the same motion which was passed on June 3,
2008, calling on the minority Conservative government to stop removal
proceedings against war resisters and allow them to stay in Canada.
It is time Prime Minister Stephen Harper and Immigration Minister Jason
Kenney to listen to Canadians and act onthe will of the Canadian people
as expressed through polls and through Parliament and implement the
motion.

Canada’s Toxic
Tar Sands: The Most Destructive Project on Earth
Because of their sheer scale, all Canadians are affected by the Tar
Sands, no matter where they live.
If you live downstream, your water is being polluted and your fish and
wildlife may be dangerous to eat. If you live in Saskatchewan you are a
victim of acid rain. If you live in BC,
“supertankers” may
soon be plying your shoreline carrying Tar Sands oil to Asia. If you
live in Ontario, you are exposed to harmful emissions from the refining
of Tar Sands Oil. And the impacts do not stop at Canada’s
border
– US refineries are re-tooling to handle the dirty oil from
Alberta.
With the Tar Sands, Canada has become the world’s dirty
energy superpower.
Environmental Defence’s report highlights the environmental
and
human health effects of the Tar Sands. And, outlines what the federal
government should do to clean it up.

What's
Happening at Samaritan House
Samaritan House Faith-Sharing Group
Weekly at 7pm
The Samaritan House Faith-Sharing group will be meeting every Thursday
except in the months July and August. We will be using Celebrating the
Word, a lectionary based resource on the reading for the coming Sunday
worship. Celebrating the Word is based on the effective dynamics of the
small group process (i.e. listening, accepting, trusting and
responding), and is designed to help people of faith to prayerfully
discern meaningful connections between their “life
Stories”
and “the Gospel story.”
Any drummers out there? We could re-start drumming on
Sunday evenings if there are folks interested.
The Christian Radical Zine...
is produced monthly out of Samaritan House. Help is always needed in
editing and printing, as well as writing.
