Arthur Edward Ford's first wife, Anna Colmer died in 1899. He employed Alice as a nanny for his 3 children. At the time, Arthur worked in his families very lucrative catering business; his family were also in the tailor and hatters business. Following his marriage to Alice in 1901, Arthur left the family business and became a baker.

Later after Arthur died, his wife Alice and their youngest Iris, daughter Iris opened a dress shop. Iris was the tailor and Alice hand sewed the lingerie. The dress shop closed down at the start of WW2.

Arthur Edward Ford's father, William Day Ford won a silver medal at the 1876 Philadelphia Exhibition awarded by the United States Centennial Commission for an exhibit titled "Pith Sunshades for Horses". The medal is only one of 68 awarded. One of Arthur's Brothers also designed the camel shoes for the Burke and Wills trek. (they were famous Australian explorers).
