in 1867 at Pembroke a 4,470-ton corvette, and was the Navy's first Ironclad of
any size to be fitted with twin screws. In 1897 she was used as a floating naval
prison in Simonstown. She was sold in 1912.

The vessel had been ordered by the Turkish Government, and would be named Hamidieh, but due to a Russian War scare, she was purchased by the Royal Navy on 20th February 1878, and modified to Admiralty requirements. Named HMS Superb, an Iron Armour Plated ship, screw, 9710 tons.
