William would have been approximately 22 years old in 1861. The 1861 Census included persons who spent the night of Sunday, April 2nd at a particular resident, institution or vessel. I believe that while William was recorded as being in hospital, he would have remained on the crew list for the HMS Holyhead. Further that variations in his age was most likely caused when the records were transcribed. Patricia Ann Taggett.
