Ontario High School Chess Association (OHSCA)

The Ontario High School Chess Association (OHSCA) will be hosting their 41st Annual Chess Championships this year at the University of Toronto at Mississauga, in Mississauga, Ontario, on May 9-11, 2008. The OHSCA is a non-profit organization which holds an annual tournament for high school teams in Ontario. Ontario students may also register and qualify as individuals.

Our laptop computer gasped its last breath and we don't have updates for a little while. We are in the 3rd round of the tournament. The leader so far with 3-0 is Vincent Chow.

Henry Arandia won our super active tournament. Conyrats to Henry.

Fischer Random

We held a Fischer Random tournament instead of the scheduled Teams tournament. And....the winner was Vincent Chow.

Congratulations to Hemmat, our new Active Champion. He won the tournament conceding just one draw.

March 6th:

The kids started a themes tournament where they learn the first moves in the Ruy Lopez and then continue the game. A pleasant surprise is that many of them were familiar with the opening!
We played a doubles/siamese fun tournament. Robert Gillanders won the event.
We also had a small round robin for the less inclined to doubles madness.

The Viktar Chuprys Memorial 2008 has been completed. It is in memory of Viktar Chuprys who died from cancer. Viktar was an active club member and well liked by everyone. It ended in a tie for first place between Hemmat Rezvani and Klaus Schaefer. Here is a picture of Hemmat receiving the trophy from Dr. Henry Hall, the president of the Mississauga Chess Club. Klaus was congratulated in absentia.

Thursday January 24, 2008 will be our first tournament rated by the Canadian Chess Federation. Get yourself listed nationally. It will be 6 rounds and 90 minutes/game. Please come with CFC membership or renew at site.
