welcome!
Kye's Little Star
happy to see ya!

Just when the catapiller thought the world was over, it became a butterfly ------ anonymous
Kye was born on a snowy night of April 14, 2001. A beautiful and perfect baby he was. We named him Kye, which in Japanese means "ocean" (his mom Chi is Japanese and his dad Simon English, and we live in Canada). His courageous journey with Krabbe Disease ended on a starry morning of December 9, 2002 at age 19 months. When he passed away in our arms, his face was so proud and happy. A little boy at last, ready for and excited about his new journey.

Thanks to the many people around the world who have been with all of us throughout Kye's extraordinary life and who have made it so much more a life worth living. Your comfort and assistance have enabled us to give Kye the best life possible and have helped all of us to live lives filled with happiness and reward even in the face of such hardships. This has been your tragedy, too, but we know being a part of Kye's life was your joy as well.

Our dearest Kye, you are the one we need to thank you the most. You are the best thing that has ever happened to us, and our lives are forever richer because we had you. You showed us a reason to fight and a reason to live with the power and intense fragility of your being.

You have touched the lives of so many friends, family, people we have never met, nor even heard of, people all across the world, who have never even looked upon your angelic face. All these people have held you in their hearts and thoughts, have hoped for you, have prayed for you, have cried for you, have been inspired, have been changed, have felt the extraordinary power of your will to live. In your so sadly short and burdened life, you have truly made this world a better place.

We have watched with countless tears your struggle, we have felt your pain, we have tried to make sense of something that defies it. Yet more than this we have felt your strength, and been touched by the spell of your incredible spirit. We have seen the life burn in your eyes and have seen our own lives in it. We have lived each and every day in the joy and beauty that you bring us. Kye, you have in every way enclosed us. We are just so happy that you were given to us and that we had the opportunity to give you the love and care you needed and deserved.

Kye, we all miss you terribly, and it is just so unbearable not being able to hold you in our arms and feel your warmth. But you live on with us on every level of decisions, thoughts, and actions because all of those are based on what we went through together with you. Don't worry little Kye, you will have your birthday, Christmas, and all the special occasions every year in our hearts. Ah, yes, you will have presents, too.
Then there's our beautiful daughter, Hana. Kye was so lucky to have the best big sister in the world. You were always so kind and helpful to your little brother, helping him eat, helping mummy with his medicine, washing him in the bath with daddy, listening to his heartbeat with your very own stethoscope, lying with him and stroking his hair, singing songs to help him sleep, kissing him every day of his life, and filling his heart with your laughter. You made Kye so happy. And he loved you so so much. We don't honestly think we could all have made it without you making us smile and always showing us the bright side of the life.

Hana and Kye, we love you always.

ALL THAT YOU LEAVE US
a poem by Simon Gair

This early dawn
As the day's first breath of light
So softly brushed aside the veil
Of our final loving, longest night
We watched the sky grow pale with blue
And saw its last remaining star
Through Hana's bedroom window
Shining for us from so far
Alone up there in silence

This is you, Kye
This is your star
Where you will live now never ending
Burning with the flame of love
That you have left us in our hearts
To light our lives as we live on
Always with you and your smile
Even as we feel the snow
So gently everywhere descending

Our precious Kye
You leave us now
You leave us with so much
You leave the imprint in our hands
Of your most fragile touch
You leave the hope you grew in us
With every fragrant breath
You leave the love we shared with you
And all who knew your story
You leave the brightness in your eyes
Through which we knew your smile
You leave the laughter in our home
From all the joy you brought us
You leave the tears that bathe our souls
An ocean that unites us
You leave this world a better place
That you gave your short life to us
You leave your star forevermore
From which you look down on us
And leave a place in all our hearts
Where you stay forever with us
Then leave us now
Fly to your star
And stay forever with us
