Survey Markers

A survey marker is a marker. such as small disk in which accurate geographical co-ordinates are known for.

For some types of astronomy you need to have accurate geo co-ordinates in order for the observations you have made to be used by other people.

GPS - Global Position System

 

GPS uses satellite in earth orbit, to determine your location on earth. By timing how long it takes a signal to reach yout receiver from the satellite, knowing where the satellite is in orbit and other things, you can find your location.
