Break Out Plays
Special Note: These
sequences occur when our player has control of the puck on the LEFT side
of the ice.
(If we have control
of the puck on the right side of the ice, the mirror image will occur.)

take a minute or two to load]

-
Generally:
-
the Winger along the boards
goes up the boards,
-
the Winger in the middle
of the ice goes up the middle of the ice,
-
the Centre cuts across
the middle of the ice AWAY FROM the puck carrier.
-
Once one of our players
gains control of the puck in our end, the FORWARDS must turn up ice and
start skating AWAY FROM the puck carrier according to this sequence.
In this sequence our Defencewoman is carrying the puck out of our end.
At any point while carrying the puck, she must pass it ahead, if a Forward
is open (called headmanning the puck). By the time she crosses our
blue line she should have passed the puck ahead, otherwise there will be
10 players all crammed into the neutral zone making it difficult to advance
the puck ahead.
-
DEFENSE:
-
Note that the Defencewoman
without the puck stays a little behind the puck handler and about half
way across the ice. This creates a safe outlet for the puck handler
to pass to, if a problem arises. Also, if the puckhandler loses control,
the other Defensewoman is in position to prevent a breakaway on our goalie.

Generally:
-
the Winger along the boards
has control of the puck (or is fighting for the puck), and dumps the puck
up the boards to centre ice,
-
the Winger in the middle
of the ice anticipates the puck going up the boards and skates towards
the boards at centre ice to pick up the puck,
-
the Centre skates up the
middle of the ice to create a 2 player rush.
-
Now the Winger (without
the puck) follows the other 2 forwards up the ice to aid in the attack.
