The Venturers is the story of Pierre and Françoise
Marin, newly weds, who arrive at Port Royal, Acadia, New
France, to begin life as colonists for the glory of
France, Louis XIV, and the Roman Catholic Church. Little do they realized the many dangers--vile sailors, hostile neighbors, unsrupulous officials, murderous pirates, unforgiving wilderness, fearsome natives, and their own fears. The Venturers is the first book of a series based on the Marin family and French Canadian history. It begins in 1670 when France's power and prestige is at its height under the Sun King, Louis XIV and New France is developing as a colony with settlements in Quebec and Acadia.
