Geocaching is a fun sport/activity/game/hobby for all ages. I look at it as being a combination of hiking and treasure hunting using a GPS receiver. What you do is go to the geocaching.com website, look up the coordinates of the cache you want to find, enter it into the GPS and off you go to find the cache. GPS stands for Global Positioning System and has an accuracy of about 2 meters.
When you find the cache, it usually contains a log book for you to write your comments in and sign. The actual cache container normally contains several trade items. So if you take an item, be sure to leave something also for the next person. Then when you get back home, normally you write a log online on the web page for the cache you found. In addition to finding caches, you can also hide your own caches. It's lots of fun to see people find your caches and write about their experiences that they had in finding them.
Geocaching is fairly new and has only been around since May 1, 2000 when access to the Global Positioning Satellites were made available to the public. There are currently over 216000 caches hidden in 219 countries around the world. Approximately 70% of them are located in the USA, and Canada is 2nd with almost 6%.
I live with my 11 year old son and my wife in a quiet small town in Ontario, Canada. In the spring/summer of 2002, my son and I built a pond in our backyard, which brings us lots of fun and enjoyment. He is a great kid and I feel blessed to have him. We spend lots of time together doing a bunch of fun activities. He is a very good, happy, intelligent child.
I first started geocaching on
I started geocaching with a Magellan SporTrak Pro which I bought on November
6, 2002.
On
July 13, 2004 I bought a Garmin GPSmap 60CS which I still use as my main GPS.
On September 15th, 2007 I won an eTrex Legend HCx at GHAGAFAP 6 event. This GPS has awesome Satellite reception.
