Have you ever tried to crop at the Image Magick Studios before and found yourself in an eyeballing and guessing game? Is that the reason why you prefer cropping at other online graphic editing tools that offer a 'point and click crop' feature? If the answer is 'Yes', you've come to the right tutorial. This tute will teach you in a few easy steps a 'point and click crop trick' at Image Magick. It is the most precise cropping method I've found at any of the online tools and if I can master this trick, you will too. So let's crop 'by the pixels'.
A few Image Magick Facts you must remember
the tuteHere is the Image Magick I've been using: ~Network 11 Studio~ Links to all the other Magick Studios and sites are in the dropdown menu below - Here is my example image, which is the gemline on top this page. •click here•
- I'd like to crop the 'pink heart' out of the middle of the image
- I submit it at Imagick Magick Studio and click on VIEW
- on the viewing page, I click on the image and move the yellow arrow around to EXACTLY the point, where I like to set my TOP LEFT corner for my crop. In this case it is above and left to the pink heart
- in the new window you'll notice a bunch of numbers underneath your image
- the first two numbers are the ones that you want. They are divided by a coma and again the first one is the width and the second one the height co=ordinate of 'exactly' the point that you just clicked on.
- [the entire line under my image reads:
252,0 rgba(64764,64764,64764) F8F8F8 the other numbers represent the RGB color and F8F8F8 is hexcode # of the background color that I clicked on in the image - Note down the two numbers in your black title bar. They represent the width and height of the image.
- my image is 556x50, so the number in the title bar is 556x50
- now add the two other numbers from underneath the image in the back of it.
- I clicked on 252,0
- So my crop number is now
Parameter: - NEW:on the bottom under "optional choices" click on the geometry dropdown box called 'undefined' and choose NORTHWEST. Checkmark the box underneath "Reset your page geometry". This ensures that your image parameter numbers will be cropped and chopped from the top left corner down and over.
- Click in the top menu on TRANSFORM
- in the parameter box type in those numbers and click under "Choose from these transforms:" on CROP (4th one down on the left) and press TRANSFORM
- on a new page you will see your cropped off image with the topleft number set. It should look like this:
- NOTE: If for some reason IM does not display width and height of your image in the titlebar (long URL etc.), click on IDENTIFY in the top menu and under "Geometry= width+height" you'll get your numbers. Use your back button to return to "Transform".
- click on the new image again and move the yellow arrow to set your BOTTOM RIGHT corner of your cropped image.
- I would like to get the pink heart so I clicked on the bottom and to the right of it.
- again you'll get the 2 numbers underneath and the two numbers in the title bar.
- my image width and height is now 304x50 and I clicked for my final bottom-right crop on 52,50
- so my image will have these numbers:
Parameter: - Please take them again to Transform and type into the parameter your numbers.
- VERY IMPORTANT: click on CHOP (2nd down on the left) and transform.
- You should have your cropped image.CONGRATULATIONS. You did it.
- If you don't like the outcome, use your 'back' button and change the numbers after the "+" sign higher or lower.
- This method becomes second nature the more you use it.
- I GOT MY PINK HEART too
