Our World and the Environment

What can we do as individuals?

Back as early as 1987, scientists were instrumental in finally getting Governments to begin heeding warnings about the disruption in the world ecosystem due to global warming. It has been suggested that the higher numbers and intnsity of the recent ocean storms are a result of this affect (read more).

The actions were more than just additional studies. The unfortunate reality of the whole Kyoto protocol was that it was not directed at industry whose fuduciary responsiblity is to the owners & shareholders and ultimately the bottom line - and NOT the health of our world.

Even though our Government's effort may be perceived as 'weak' by comparison to the magnitude of the repair work that needs to be done, we must take the initiative for ourselves to become more efficient. This will contagiously become an attitude!
Our individual objective is the most important reponsibility. The sum of the parts can be greater than the whole.

This is more than the Canadian thing to do!

Our dependancy on fossil fuels has had the effect of narrowing our thinking to petroleum products and other fuels that are hydrocarbon based similar to petroleum products. There are many ways to generate and store energy for our use in a self sustaining or interconnected sustainable network. (more)
How can we make a difference as individuals? What about thinking about some of the old technologies that were developed in the 40's and 50's?
This of course doesn't mean that we are wasteful or inefficient, but we just need to be aware that the lessons of some of the early energy pioneers are valuable ones.
