1. Introduction Sean Clare introduced
the CUCO meeting with a brief synopsis of today's meeting.
2. Presentation of CATIA V5 by IBM (Martin)
- Uses all windows paradigm, embedded in product.
- specific toolbars and workbench icons (all are
customizable) are embedded in the window
- 4D navigator "flythrough" is included in design
mode
- fitting simulation – allows for interference checking
- dynamic sketcher is similar to V4, allows the
selection of geometry from other planes
- drag and drop features and functions
- material texturing available, applies textures
and material properties to be used for stress analysis
- generative drafting on part is available
- generate views, details and section cuts of part
through interactive drag and drop techniques
- OLE technology – screen capture of part and apply
the bitmap to other windows applications with link back to part
- knowledge based – allows part features to be developed
for various materials (example)
- assembly modeler allows the placement of parts
through manipulation or by applying constraints
- mechanisms can be made through the proper creation
of constraints in the assembly
- surfaces are created through NURB surfaces, control
points can be pulled for interactive creation of surfaces
3. Presentation of IntelliStation by IBM (Dan)
- certification and testing in place so that software
works on hardware
- processes and graphics available to drive software
- 3 NT workstations are available
i. E-Pro - single processer
ii. M-Pro - dual processor (not
required for CATIA but can run other programs at same time)
iii Z-pro – Pentium III Xeon
for large file sets.
- Graphic cards
i. Fire GL1 – 32M dynamic graphics
card, 256 bit throughput
ii. Wildcat 4000 – high end calculations
on graphics card and not CPU
4. New chairperson for committee. Sean Clare has
provided a strong direction to the group and is pursuing to further his
education
- Fred Bellio of De Havilland is introduced and is
willing to take over as chair
5. Engineering solutions update by IBM (Richard)
- roadshows for manufacturing, V5 seminars, analysis
- services are found at ,
client readiness, Enoviavpm
- promotions expire June 30, 1999
- HEAT program – higher education and training program.
- CASIL solicits participants for tests
- CATweb Navigator – server capacity test
6. Presentation of Dynamic Sketcher by Steve Hotchkiss
of L & H Consultants
- planar geometry creation
- combination of 6 functions in one
- /set – changes mouse to middle instead of 3rd
button
- 4 ways to get into sketcher
a. sketch a profile
b. create dimensioning and accuracy of profile
c. create constraints
- tool to be used to create a profile that will be
used to create a solid, not a drafting tool
7. Update on Spring 99 COE (Fred & Emil)
- CATIA V4
- V4-V5
- CATIA V5 – DENEB, SMART
-VPM
8. General discussion, questions, hints and tips
a. Quicktext function has only a portion of applicability
of text function.
b. get used to quickdraw in AUXVIEW 2 as its applications
are similar in V5
c. translation of geometry is still currently IGES
with V5
d. DDNAME errors – declaration inconsistencies
9. Next meeting September 20, 1999 at a golf course
(TBD).
