1. Introduction by Terry Parrott, CUCO Chairperson
2. Presentation/Demo on CATIA Companion by
Pierre-Louis Racine - IBM Canada
-
V5 Web Based Learning (Companion Product)
-
Successor to V4 CBT
-
Web Based Learning family of products
-
Uses web technology
-
Announced April 25, 2000
-
Ideally suited for MD2 configuration
-
Single gateway to all info and training about CATIA V5 - replaces the
teacher
-
Has best practices, guided path and a quiz
-
Can be shareable or at an enterprise level
-
On NT and soon to come on UNIX
Pierre then ran a demo of a customer scenario showing the CATIA Companion
Product
3. SOLID Import presentation/demo by Tom Goodfellow
from TBM Technologies.
-
Publish and Import feature within SOLID function
-
Important feature - eliminates the need to copy solids over; grabs an
image - you can mill it, release it, all changes incorporated with machined
features, provides casting for other manufactures to view
Demo: 1. publish a solid - timestamp (unique identifier), anyone can
import/change. 2. absolute on absolute - casting created - your solid is
protected
Tom spoke of machining operations to an imported solid - fast/easy/accurate
-
You can publish the Solid more than once - need good methodology and
naming convention
-
Tells you right away if model is not synchronized
-
Can use for assemblies/casting/tooling/kinematics/simultaneous engineering/analysis/protecting
proprietary info
-
All data is in one model to change, manipulate, tamper proof, cuts down
on duplication of work
4. Spring COE Update by Steve Hotchkiss - L&H
Consultants, Inc.
Steve presented 2 videos on COE - provided an overview of what COE
is all about.
Spring COE was more of a V5 trend - what’s in/what isn’t/futures;
also focus on ENOVIA, CDM, transferring data, manufacturing, DPC sessions
Next COE is in St. Louis/Missouri - week of October 1/2000 - check
out the COE website for further details/registration: www.coe.org
5. CATIA Users Group - GOLF TOURNAMENT - SEPTEMBER
7, 2000
Where:
Rolling Hills/Clublink - 302 Fairlawn Avenue,
Stouffville, Ontario
Jim Cleland from DaimlerChrysler is scheduled to present - topics
of interest the users would like Jim to present on:
-
In the last 4-6 weeks, why won’t they accept tier 1,2 suppliers?
-
V5 Direction plans / Roll out - precise programs
-
Data management - how do they control between sites, multiple models
- VPM/ENOVIA/CDM
-
Car Lines - new platforms/projects/what’s new and exciting since the
merger?
-
Internalized project files
Any other topics for Jim, please send an e-mail to Shelley Hull (shull@ca.ibm.com)
by end of week!!
If you do not wish to attend the golf tournament, but want to attend
dinner/speaker - you just need to pay for dinner - more details on the
Golf tournament will be published on our website shortly (www.cuco.org).
Cut-off dates will be published in the next couple of weeks.
6. Preparing Part for FEA presented by Steve
Hotchkiss - L&H Consultants, Inc.
-
Design - FEA - Customer
-
Speed up FEA Bottleneck
-
Ensure geometry complete, all surfaces meet, create part with fewest
number of surfaces, create skins whenever possible (makes analysis easier)
-
Use layers effectively to give the analyst the clearest picture; create
solids; erase all unwanted geometry; when you design your part, try to
avoid small faces; before you send your part - go through GPS - eliminates
modifications analysis does to your part
-
By running GPS, you’re not eliminating the FEA person - it will ASSIST
them
Steve then provided a demo on why to use GPS
TO DO: Steve to provide a list of helpful
websites to be added to the CUCO website
Topics for Future sessions: Skin Function,
Tangency Control, Splines/Arcs
Next Meeting: Monday, November 13, 2000
from 1-5 p.m./IBM 3600 Auditorium
Clarification: V4-V5 Migration - There is approximately a 3 month
overlap period to get from V4 to V5 for users. Eventually, you will need
to eliminate Version 4.
