My Interest in the Paranormal

I don’t remember when I first became interested in the ‘paranormal.’ It must have been early because when I was 13 Santa brought me Ouija board and a deck of Tarot cards. Now that I think of it, it is all Santa’s fault. All of my ‘paranormal’ experiences started after that Christmas.

The Ouija board never liked to work underground and my friends and I always seemed to hang out in someone’s basement. The only times it really got going was when we were at the kitchen table. My board kept spelling out the words ‘love god.’ I always thought that was kind of weird until one day I noticed that most of my Prince albums had the words ‘love god’ somewhere in the liner notes. Obviously my Ouija board liked the music. Years later, Prince started using an ankh on his records and his website. I’ve been wearing a ankh since I was a teenager. I wonder if someone is trying to tell me something.

My Ouija board made a bunch of predictions, all of which came true except for the most important one. It told me that I was going die on August 1, 1999. Since you’re reading this you can assume I didn’t die (well… maybe you can’t.) I was supposed to get hit by a car driven by someone famous. This was supposed to happen in LA. As I’m writing this, I’m a little less than a month from going to LA. You bet I’ll be looking both ways before I cross the street.

That Ouija board had a pitiful end. I met this guy who was convinced that he was an angel. I don’t really remember why but it had something to do with him dying and coming back to life or living when he should have died. Anyway, he was very uncomfortable with me having a Ouija board and I was no longer using it anyway so I let him burn it on his BBQ.

I still have my first Tarot deck. I don’t like them. The images don’t mean anything to me. I’ve been meaning to get a new deck but I just haven’t gotten around to it. I used to use a plain deck of playing cards to read for my friends. I got caught doing it in the back of the class in grade school. As punishment, the teacher made me write a four-page essay on the origin of cards. Talk about clueless. I had no problem. I like cards. I like research and I like writing. That teacher just didn’t get it. But I did stop doing readings in class. I did them out in the hall instead.

I’m always amazed at people who have memorized the Tarot deck. They just don’t seem to stick in my head. When I did readings with playing cards, I was going more on intuition and basic meanings of the suits than on the specific meanings of the cards. Turned out to be just as accurate.

So there you have it. A little introduction to my journey into the paranormal. I’ll be writing more about different topics but at least I’ve made a start.

Here's something I found interesting. Space.com ran a story about Stonehenge. Seems there's a new theory about what it was used for.
